Located in downtown Walla Walla, Charles Smith Wines Downtown Tasting Room blends the sophistication of the Walla Walla winery with the pioneering and industrious spirit of the Northwest. Building a tasting room that exuded the Charles Smith brand in the heart of Washington wine country was an exciting project that included the full renovation of a 4,500 sf brick frame building.
The building, originally constructed in the 1930’s, required demolition, masonry repair, sandblasting, casework, as well as modern updates to electrical systems, sprinklers, HVAC and fire monitors. To truly create a one-of-a-kind space for a one-of-a-kind winemaker, the Schuchart team coordinated the construction of timber framed offices, lovingly known as the “Armadillo.” The Armadillo was completed with movable steel paneled walls and two custom steel and glass overhead doors from Turner Exhibits.
