Seattle Department of Transportation

Seattle Department of Transportation building elevator lobby

ARCHITECT: Allbee Romein

SCHEDULE: 8 weeks

SIZE: 18,942 sf

This fast paced project was originally scheduled at 12 weeks but through close coordination with the client and design team, Schuchart reduced the project schedule to 8 weeks through select double shifting and weekend work. Work consisted of the full demolition of existing non-core elements on the entire 31st floor.

New offices and partition walls were formed to facilitate the installation of the owner provided demountable wall systems. Finishes included new paint, custom casework, carpet, glass walls and entry doors, frames and hardware, as well as re-painting of the existing grid ceiling and installation of new ACT tile. Three heat pumps were added in addition to one VAV box to update the existing HVAC system. Additionally, electrical, plumbing, fire alarm and fire sprinkler upgrades occurred.

Schuchart carried the Audio Visual and Security packages under contract for this project. The highlight of the space is the elevator lobby, which features reclaimed wood slats with local artisan glass tiles that have been melted down from recycled glass.
